  6. This Whitepaper, by Emeritus Professor Beverley Oliver, explores the drivers behind the the new meaning of employability and makes ten recommendations to help universities rethink how they can increase employability beyond 2020.
    Oliver recommends national strategies to address issues of credibility and sustainability, such as a National Credit Framework and Lifelong Learning accounts, addressing privacy and security issues. "An evolved 21C education system will include interoperability between formal and non-formal learning so that new and prior knowledge and skills can be certified – rapidly, repeatedly, accessibly."

  8. Educause Review article looks at the opportunities and threats of 'unbundling' aspects of higher education. In relation to micro-credentials there are issues around 'value, stigma and legitimacy' which can challenge traditional education pathways, or be used to challenge more flexible pathways. "certification is an equity issue" Commercialization v's democratic citizenship.
    "Higher education is a hybrid ecology. Other possibilities for shaping provision include the model of the commons. The idea of the commons places knowledge and educators as knowledge producers in charge at the center, in a shared understanding. This approach foregrounds co-creation and participation. It develops governance mechanisms premised on shared resources. And it shifts the discourse from a market-led higher education knowledge economy to an open, collaborative, learning-led knowledge society."

  9. A report of a workshop on whether micro-credentials can be used as an indicator of success in tertiary study. It raises important questions about the validity and reliability of micro-credentials from a College Admissions perspective and highlights the need for some shared understanding and a standardised framework or ecosystem to support their use. Suggests micro-credentials provide the opportunity to rethink traditional learning structures and develop a new learning culture.
